After 20 years of hosting the community's annual July 3 Fireworks Fest, Cornerstone Chapel has announced this summer's event will be its final year as host.
For two decades, thousands of families, friends and neighbors have gathered on the church grounds to celebrate together, creating memories and strengthening community connections. What began 21 years ago when Lead Pastor Mark Giaimo and his family climbed the hill behind the church to see whether Medina's fireworks were visible has grown into a beloved annual tradition. Since then, generations of families have made Cornerstone Chapel part of their Independence Day celebrations.

The event is ending because tree growth around the church property has increasingly blocked views of the fireworks display, making it difficult to provide the experience attendees have enjoyed for years.Cornerstone Chapel
The decision to conclude hosting Fireworks Fest comes as mature tree growth in the line of sight has increasingly limited visibility of the fireworks display, making it more difficult to provide the viewing experience guests have enjoyed over the years.
Church leaders had considered making last year's Fireworks Fest the final event. However, recognizing the significance of the nation's 250th anniversary celebration in 2026, they felt it was important to host one more year and provide the community with a final opportunity to gather for the occasion.
"While this chapter is coming to a close, our commitment to serving Medina remains as strong as ever," church leadership said in a statement. "We are thankful for everyone who has joined us through the years and look forward to continuing to make a difference in our community."
For 41 years, Cornerstone Chapel has been part of the Medina community and remains committed to investing in the lives of local individuals and families. The church also partners with organizations throughout the community.
The Farmers Market of Medina County uses the church's Route 3 parking lot for its weekly market, Leadership Medina County regularly uses church meeting space, the church serves as a polling location, local Girl Scout troops use the property for annual cookie distribution, and local law enforcement agencies have used the campus as a training location for detection canine exercises.
Cornerstone Chapel will continue its ministry efforts throughout Medina County. In addition to weekly Sunday services at 10 a.m., the church will host Vacation Bible School July 13-17.

The church also continues its monthly outreach at Nottingham Court, serving meals and building relationships with residents, while the Mobile Blessing Truck regularly travels through Medina neighborhoods to meet practical needs and connect with community members.
While Fireworks Fest is coming to an end, Lead Pastor Mark Giaimo said Cornerstone Chapel remains committed to serving Medina and is grateful for the memories, relationships and community connections built through the event over the past two decades.Cornerstone Chapel
These ministries reflect Cornerstone Chapel's mission of helping people know God, grow in faith and go make a difference.
Community members are invited to attend the final Fireworks Fest on July 3 at the church campus, 3939 Granger Road, Medina. Activities begin at 6 p.m. and will include food trucks, a DJ, family-friendly activities and fellowship before the fireworks begin at dusk.
