The 16th annual Chippewa Lake Polar Bear Jump and Fun Run/Walk has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, due to severe wind chills that created unsafe conditions for participants and volunteers. The event had originally been planned for Jan. 31.
Hosted by the Chippewa Lake Lions Club Foundation, the fundraiser carries the theme “Take a Dip in the Chip!” and will take place at the Chippewa Lake beach area at the corner of Longacre and Beachside boulevards. Chippy, the event’s polar bear mascot, will again host the family-friendly event.
The Polar Bear Jump is the primary fundraising event for the Chippewa Lake Lions Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. Last year’s event raised more than $77,000 for local charities and families in need.
Organizers expect more than 400 jumpers, runners, walkers and spectators. Participants may register as individuals or teams and can choose to take the plunge or participate in the Fun Run/Walk. Costumes are encouraged. Due to recent cold weather, organizers anticipate thick ice conditions, creating a dramatic setting for the event.
All proceeds benefit charitable efforts in the community.
