Arboretum Walk set for Oct. 18 at Medina’s Spring Grove Cemetery
Guided tours, tree expert, photo contest and family activities highlight sixth annual event celebrating the county’s only accredited arboretum
Friends of the Cemetery will host the sixth Spring Grove Arboretum Walk on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 2-4 p.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery, 775 E. Washington St.
The event showcases 79 of the more than 100 tree species that make up Medina County’s only globally accredited arboretum. With more than 600 trees on its grounds, Spring Grove is recognized as a model “urban forest.”
This year’s featured program is a 2 p.m. guided tour led by Chad Clink, master arborist with Bartlett Tree Experts. Participants may also choose self-guided tours at any time during the event, with maps provided. Each highlighted tree will be signed and labeled for easy identification.
Organizers encourage visitors to bring cameras. “This is a wonderful opportunity for folks to take that winning photo for our Photo Contest that is currently running through Oct. 25,” Friends of the Cemetery said in a statement.
The walk is free, open to the public, and will be held rain or shine. The family-friendly event includes a scavenger hunt and is accessible for strollers, wagons, wheelchairs and pets. Bartlett Tree Experts will provide free seedlings to attendees while supplies last.
Parking is available at the Mears Building at Spring Grove, where the tour begins.
The Friends of the Cemetery, which organizes the annual walk in collaboration with the City of Medina, is dedicated to preserving and beautifying Spring Grove Cemetery and the Old Town Graveyard. More information is available at friendsofmedinacemetery.org.
