Mount Vernon's Rush, Freddie girls' team win at Highland

Mount Vernon’s Lucy Rush won the individual title but it was
Fredericktown that ran away with the team title at the Highland Flying Scots
Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Rush won the race by just about three seconds over Clear
Fork’s Katrina Neal, finishing the course in 19:08.96.
The Freddies got all five of their scoring runners in the
top 16 to capture the team title with 48 points. Host Highland was second with 65,
followed by Mount Vernon with 86 points.
Peyton Blakesley was the top Fredericktown runner, finishing
fourth in 20:58.87. Gwen Lavin came in ninth at 21:38.90, followed by Elizabeth
Swartzentruber in 12th at 21:52.97, Angelina Overholt (15th,
22:46.78) and Sophia Overholt (16th,22:59.84).
After Rush, Amanda Misarti was the next Yellow Jacket to
finish, placing 17th in 23:02.99. Nora De la Fuente Morcillo came in
23rd at 23:25.29, followed by Callie Peugh (29th,
24:14.68) and Cora Stetler (30th, 24:18.74).
Centerburg and Danville also participated in the race, but
didn’t have enough runners to compete as a team.
Payton Tucker was the first Centerburg runner, finishing
sixth in 21:18.37. Audrey Garner was 34th in 24:37.55, followed by
Molly Henry (39th, 24:58.81) and Merrideth Nash (73rd,
30:12.54).
Danville was led by Brooklyn Ashman, who finished 25th
in 23:50.74. Raegan Malone (35th, 24:51.53) and Hailey Colopy (60th,
27:33.97) also competed.
On the boys’ side, Mount Vernon scored 92 points to finish
second behind Highland (66). Fredericktown was fourth with 95 points and
Centerburg seventh with 163.
Freshman Calvin Heithaus was the top Yellow Jacket runner,
finishing third in a time of 16:54.22. Owen Petrie finished ninth in 17:36.34,
followed by Gavin Andrews (18th, 18:09.42), Joey Butts (23rd,
18:36.38) and Nathan Jose (43rd, 19:56.22).
Fredericktown was led by Lincoln Snyder’s seventh-place
finish in 17:26.91. Anson Wenger came in 10th at 17:36.73, followed
by Darren Hartley (22nd, 18:27.00), Carter Budd (24th,
18:45.11) and Nolan Bender (32nd, 19:18.03).
Andrew Dickhof (17:51.38) and Carter Netting (17:56.74)
finished 12th and 14th, respectively, for Centerburg.
Lane Kloss came in 39th (19:44.91), followed by Sam Dickhof (55th,
20:30.79) and Corbin Netting (62nd, 20:55.66).
Danville’s Johnny Stephens (20:06.48) finished 47th,
followed by Ethan Swendal (50th, 20:23.37), Evan Crider (80th,
22:05.06) and Nick Mosher (84th, 22:27.55).
