The city of Mount Vernon announced the swearing-in and promotion of several dedicated public servants within the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Mount Vernon Fire Department. These personnel changes reflect the city’s commitment to maintaining a high level of emergency response and leadership.

The MVFD announced two new full-time appointments and two significant leadership promotions:

— Nate Hines promoted to assistant chief: A member of the department since 2006, Hines has moved up through the chain of command. Previously serving as a firefighter/paramedic and most recently as EMS coordinator/lieutenant, his transition to assistant chief brings decades of experience to his new role.

— Tom Calland promoted to EMS coordinator/lieutenant: Joining the department in 2017 as a full-time firefighter/paramedic, Calland has demonstrated exceptional clinical skill and leadership. With this promotion, he will oversee Emergency Medical Services operations and departmental training.

— Nathaniel Wolfe appointed full-time firefighter: Formerly with the Knox County Fire Department and serving the city of Mount Vernon in a part-time capacity, Wolfe officially transitions to a full=time role, bringing a seamless continuity of service to the community.

— Luke Hawbaker appointed full-time firefighter: After serving the Mount Vernon Fire Department in a part-time role, Hawbaker has been sworn in as a full-time firefighter, further strengthening the department’s daily operational readiness.
