The Mount Vernon Fire Department carried on the tradition of “pushing in” their brand-new medic unit surrounded by the community, their families, and their team on May 21.
This tradition dates back to the early 17th century when horse-drawn fire equipment had to be pushed back into the station after every call. While technology has advanced since then, the fire service has carried on this tradition of pushing equipment into service together as a symbol of their dedication and unity to not only each other, but fire service as a whole.
“This new medic unit is an important investment in public safety, equipped with modern technology to help our firefighters and paramedics provide excellent emergency care when our residents need it most,” said Mayor Matthew Starr. “But the true strength of this department is not only in the equipment; it’s in the men and women who answer the call every day with skill, courage, and compassion.”
The Mount Vernon Fire Department regularly trains for a variety of scenarios, ensuring their preparedness to step in during any emergency the city’s residents may face. However, this upgraded equipment bolsters the level of expertise that the city’s fire department can demonstrate. The city would like to thank the community for their continued support of its local fire department and its members. These investments would not be possible without the ongoing commitment of its community into the fire department and the knowledge, courage, and compassion of its fire team into the community.
