Fredericktown softball falls in district play
Bad inning costly as Johnnies beat Freddies
One bad inning proved costly to the Fredericktown softball team.
The Freddies gave up nine runs in the second inning and fell 14-4 to Johnstown in the Div. V district semifinals Monday.
Jazzy Wittman belted a home run and drove in three runs to lead Fredericktown. Vika Arnett and Aubree Whitley each added two singles, while Kiersten Mills and Ella Au each had one.
Arnett started on the mound for FHS, lasting just 1.1 innings. Haylee Frye finished up.
A six-run third inning propelled Fredericktown to a 10-2 victory over Grove City Christian on May 14.
Mills and Whitley each smacked three singles to lead the Freddies. Wittman had two singles and four RBI, while Abbey Wittman had two singles. Frye, Halie Mull, Rylei Schulties and Baylee Newton had one hit each.
Frye went the distance on the mound, striking out four.
Baseball
Fredericktown closed out its regular season with a 9-6 loss to Centerburg on May 13.
Carson Rinehart smacked a double and two singles, driving in three runners, to lead Fredericktown. Grady Mills added two singles, while Vince Lavin, Jayce Beeman and Gavin Buzzard had one each.
Beeman pitched the first inning for the Freddies, fanning one. Zane Luckmeier struck out two in 1.1 innings, and Reese Hannan had five Ks in 4.2 innings.
