The Knox County Compost Facility will close temporarily beginning Monday, July 6, for clean up and reorganization. The Thayer Road facility is expected to remain closed for approximately four to six weeks.

The Knox County Commissioners announce the following temporary operational changes for the Knox County Compost Facility due to material capacity issues and an ongoing site reorganization project.

Effective immediately, the site will temporarily accept drop-offs from Knox County residents only. Businesses, local governments, industries, contractors, and other non-residential organizations will not be permitted to drop off material until further notice. These temporary restrictions are necessary to reduce site volume and allow staff to improve facility operations.

Temporary hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays.

The site will close temporarily beginning Monday, July 6, for all users while the site undergoes cleanup, reorganization, and operational improvements, including the development of updated guidelines and operating hours. The site will reopen when work has been completed. The estimated closure is 4 to 6 weeks.

Additional updates regarding reopening and future operations will be provided as they become available.
