Freddies headed to district finals after win over Centerburg
East Knox, Mount Vernon both fall in final moments of district semifinals

Fredericktown rallied from a 3-0 deficit to knock rival
Centerburg out of the Div. V tournament with a 5-4 victory on Tuesday.
The Trojans got a run in the first and two more in the second
to take the early 3-0 lead.

The Freddies rallied with two in the third inning, then took
the lead with two more in the fourth.
After Centerburg tied the game with a run in the bottom of
the sixth, Fredericktown pushed across a run when Jayce Beeman stole home in
the top of the seventh.
The Freddies (13-13) were led by Carson Rinehart, who had
two singles and two RBI. Graham Overholt and Kaiden Gibson each added a single.
Rinehart started on the mound for FHS, striking out two in
1.2 innings of work. Nick LaFevre followed the next 3.2 innings, fanning five,
and Vince Lavin picked up the win with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.
The Trojans (15-9) got just three singles on the night – one
each from Aiden Trobridge, Gabe Campos and Quentin Bellamy.
Dustin Parker went the distance on the mound for Centerburg,
striking out six.

The Freddies will take on Amanda-Clearcreek on Thursday at 2
p.m. at Beavers Field in Lancaster in the district finals.
Fredericktown
Fredericktown exploded for five runs in the first inning and
went on to beat Elgin, 8-3, in the Div. V sectional baseball tournament Sunday
at Fredericktown.
The Freddies got four hits in the inning to score the five
runs and set up a showdown with Knox Morrow Athletic Conference rival
Centerburg on Tuesday.
Graham Overholt led the Freddies with two singles. Zane
Luckmeier doubled in two runs, while Vince Lavin, Reese Hannan and Gavin
Galbraith each had a single.
Gavin Buzzard shut down the Comets for the first six
innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven. Mason Bennett and Nick
LaFevre finished up.
Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon battled with fifth-seed Worthington Kilbourne but
was knocked out of the tournament with a 4-3 loss on Tuesday at Watkins
Memorial.
The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the fourth inning to
take an early lead. But the Wolves bounced back with two in the bottom of the
inning, tied the game in the fifth, then won it with a run in the seventh.
Nolan Hershberger led the Jackets (13-14) with a double and
two singles. Gavin Gorsuch, Greyson Deem and Zack Beck all added singles.
Coen Armstrong started on the hill for MV, striking out two
in 4.2 innings of work. Beck finished up, fanning two.
The Mount Vernon baseball team wrapped up its regular season
with a 10-5 victory over Delaware Hayes.
The Yellow Jackets needed just three hits to score seven
runs in the third inning and pull away for the victory.
Jax McPeek led the Jackets with two doubles, a single and
two RBI. Gavin Gorsuch added a double, two singles and two RBI, while Travis
Burak added two singles and Zack Beck one.
Dammon Wolfe started on the hill for MV, striking out one in
four innings of work. Beck finished up, fanning three.
Danville
Nolan Ridgway’s two-out double in the seventh inning helped
propel Danville to a 3-1 victory over Ridgedale in the Div. VII sectional
tournament on Monday.
Ridgway doubled on an 0-2 count, bringing home Bryce Burke,
who had singled, and Briggs Wallace, who reached on a fielder’s choice. The
victory sent the Blue Devils to the district tournament where they play
Fairfield Christian on Wednesday.
The Devils had scored one in the fourth inning on an RBI
groundout by Mason Savage. But the Rockets came back with one of their own in
the bottom of the fifth.
Curtis Cline, Cy Wallace and Briggs Wallace also had singles
for Danville.
Reuben Troyer pitched a gem on the mound for the Devils,
allowing just two hits while striking out eight in the complete game victory.
Two four-run innings propelled the Danville baseball team to
a 10-0 victory over Genoa Christian in the final regular season game.
Nolan Ridgway smacked a home run, two singles and drove in
three runs to lead the Blue Devils. Brycen Burke added a double and a single,
while Mason Savage had two singles and two RBI. Briggs Wallace and Cy Wallace
both doubled, and Curtis Cline, Clayton Vance and Jaden Stull all singled.
Reuben Troyer pitched the first 2.2 innings for Danville,
striking out five. Briggs Wallace finished up, fanning four.
East Knox
East Knox’s amazing run ended with a 4-3 loss to Amanda-Clearcreek
in the Div. V district semifinals Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (20-7) won the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference
but couldn’t get many hits in the loss to the Aces.
EK scored two in the bottom of the second, then added a run
in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. But the Aces scored once in the sixth and once
in the seventh to win.
Caleb Armstrong led the Bulldogs with a double and an RBI.
Zayne Grennell, Caden Ridenour, Garrett Wesney and Dakota Cooper all singled.
Colton Armstrong started on the hill for EK, allowing eight
hits and two walks in 5.1 innings of work. Grennell finished up, fanning three.
