Mount Vernon to begin citywide leaf pickup Nov. 3
Street Department urges residents to rake leaves to curbs—not streets—as crews make two full passes through city in November
The city of Mount Vernon will begin citywide leaf pickup on Monday, Nov. 3. There will be three machines operating this season. The machines will pick up all of the main streets first, then proceed to the side streets and outlying areas. We will make two complete passes through the City during the month of November.
Exact dates machines will be in areas are not predictable; we encourage citizens to have their leaves raked as soon as possible. Note: Citizens may see machines out testing before Nov. 3.
We emphasize that leaves should be raked to the curb, but not out into the street. Raking leaves into the street results in clogging storm sewers. Additionally, do not rake leaves around trees, fire hydrants, sign posts, mailboxes, or close to intersections.
Residents may also utilize the Knox County Yard Waste and Compost Facility (7425 Thayer Road Mount Vernon, OH 43050) to drop off loose leaves; they are open seven days a week. Remember, the drop off area is for loose leaves only. All bags or other containers must be removed from the area after they are emptied.
If you have any questions, please call the Street Department at 740-393-9501.
