Freddies shoot down Blue Devils in KMAC showdown

Fredericktown boys pull away from Danville to stay unbeaten in league play while Freddies also post wins in bowling and girls wrestling

In a battle of unbeatens, the Fredericktown boys’ basketball team showed Danville why it belongs at the top of the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference standings.

The Freddies (6-0 overall, 3-0 KMAC) used a strong middle of the game to take control and beat the Blue Devils, 65-49, on Dec. 20 at Fredericktown.

FHS led 15-12 after the first quarter, but outscored Danville (4-1, 3-1) 37-18 in the second and third quarters to pull away for the victory.

Carson Rinehart led the Freddies with 22 points, including four three-pointers. He also had five assists and four rebounds. Blake Sipes added 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Gavin Toombs had 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Zane Luckmeier had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Prior to that win, the Freddies wasted little time in disposing of Knox Morrow Athletic Conference foe Loudonville on Dec. 17, winning the game 68-20.

The Freddies opened up an 18-7 lead after one quarter and stretched it to 44-14 at halftime.

Carson Rinehart led the Freddies with 14 points and three steals. Blake Sipes added 12 points, five steals and three assists, while Zane Luckmeier had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals, and Gavin Toombs had 10 points and three rebounds.

Bowling

The Fredericktown bowling teams dropped their match against host East Knox on Dec. 17.

The Freddies fell in the boys’ match, 1,853-1,676.

Jordan Moore led the Freddies with a 446 series (222-224). Jaxon Kempton shot 256.

The girls’ team was also defeated, 1,675-1,484.

Maddie Bartlett led the Freddies with a 284 series (146-138). Kota Curtis shot 266 (125-141) and Pilar Payne had 252 (130-122).

Fredericktown bounced back with a pair of wins over Cardington on Dec. 22.

The Lady Freddies beat Cardington, 1,763-1,729.

Curtis fired a 360 series (194-166) to lead the Freddies. Bartlett added a 341 (180-161), while Holly Hogle shot 330 (148-182). 

The boys' team beat the Pirates, 1,814-1,728.

Moore struck his way to a 426 series (210-216) and led the Freddies. Wyatt Payne came in at 327 (189-138).

Girls' Wrestling

The Fredericktown girls’ wrestling team had two individual placers in the Queen of the Valley tournament at River Valley on Dec. 20.

Truth Yarman placed fifth in the 115-pound weight class while Kristina Meszarosova was sixth at 135. Yarman dropped her first match but then recorded a pin to advance to bracket play. After losing her first match there, she recorded two pins to pick up the fifth-place trophy. Meszarosova also lost her first match but came back to pick up a 9-1 victory to advance. She won via pin one of her three matches and came in sixth.

Addison Hess (100 pounds) and Aliza Lotz (145) also wrestled for Fredericktown.
