Danville softball clinches share of KMAC title
Sweep of Cardington gives Devils at least a share of crown
A sweep of Cardington helped the Danville softball team clinch at least a share of the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference title.
The Blue Devils (18-4 overall, 13-1 KMAC) beat the Pirates 8-0 on May 6, then finished off its KMAC schedule with a 15-1 victory on May 9.
In the first victory, Addy Bocock was on fire on the mound. The senior struck out 19 Pirate hitters, allowing just four hits in the shutout victory.
Bocock also provided most of the offense, smacking two home runs, two singles and driving in three runs. Kaylee Martin and Dalayna Parker added two singles each, while Liz John and Ryleigh Geog both doubled. Morgan Hinkens added a single.
On May 9, it was the offense that sparked the Blue Devils, who cranked out 15 hits. Taylor Meade had a home run, two doubles and drove in five runners to lead Danville. Martin added a double and two singles, while Bocock had a double and a single. Ruby Bartok and Parker both singled.
Bocock was again masterful on the mound, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits.
Despite out hitting and out pitching Licking Valley, the Blue Devils still fell to the Panthers, 2-0, on Monday.
Martin and Meade each had two singles to lead Danville. Bocock added a single.

Baseball
Danville lost a pair of heartbreakers to Cardington this week.
Danville gave up four runs in the seventh inning and lost to Cardington, 5-4, on May 6.
The Blue Devils got four singles on the day – one each from Reuben Troyer, Nolan Ridgway, Cy Wallace and Jaden Stull.
Ridgway pitched the first six innings, striking out 10. Briggs Wallace and Brycen Burke combined for the last inning with Wallace fanning two.
The Devils managed just three hits in an 8-1 loss to Coshocton on May 8.
Troyer had two singles to lead DHS, while Ridgway cracked a double.
Clayton Vance started on the hill for Danville, striking out two in five innings of work. Burke finished up, fanning one.
The second tough loss to Cardington came on May 9 when the Pirates pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to win, 4-3.
Burke, Troyer and Curtis Cline all singled for Danville, which led 3-0 after scoring three runs in the top of the first.
Troyer tossed the first six innings, fanning six. Briggs Wallace also pitched.
Danville had rival East Knox on the ropes Tuesday. But the Bulldogs were able to score four runs in the seventh inning and pull out a 6-4 victory.
Ridgway smacked two home runs and drove in three to lead the Devils. Vance added two singles, while Cline, Jacob Byers and Aiden Hood had one each.
Ridgway started on the mound for Danville, striking out five in six innings of work. Burke and Briggs Wallace combined for the final inning, both striking out one.
