Fredericktown softball finishes regular season on high note
Freddies sweep Northmor in close games
The Fredericktown softball team wrapped up its regular season with a pair of close victories over Northmor.
The Freddies led 7-3 in the first game, then held on for an 8-7 victory.
Kiersten Mills and Jazzy Wittman each smacked a home run and a single to pace FHS. Wittman also drove in three runs. Vika Arnett added a double and two singles, while Abbey Wittman had two doubles and a single. Ella Au stroked a double, and Aubree Whitley and Baylee Newton both singled.
Arnett tossed the first six innings, fanning five. Natalie Mull struck out two in her inning of work.
Abbey Wittman’s RBI single helped the Freddies walk off a 2-1 victory over Northmor on May 11.
Arnett had laced a one-out double, then scored on Wittman’s hit. Arnett added a single, while Wittman had two singles for FHS. Whitley cracked a double and Mills and Rylei Schulties both singled.
Arnett went the distance on the mound, striking out four.
On May 8, the Freddies managed just two hits in a 5-1 loss to Clear Fork.
Whitley and Abbey Wittman both singled for FHS.
Natalie Mull pitched the entire game for FHS, striking out one.
Baseball
Fredericktown was swept by Northmor this week, but the Freddies bounced back to beat Clear Fork.
The Knights beat FHS, 2-1, on May 6 despite managing just four hits on the day.
Graham Overholt, Grady Mills and Carson Rinehart each had two singles to pace Fredericktown. Kaiden Gibson, Cole Burnside, Jayce Beeman and Zane Luckmeier had one hit apiece.
Rinehart started on the mound for FHS, fanning three in five innings of work. Gavin Buzzard finished up, fanning one.
The Knights got the offense going on May 7, smacking 17 hits in an 11-6 win over Fredericktown.
Vince Lavin led the Freddies with two singles. Mills and Reese Hannan had one single each.
Mason Bennett started on the hill for FHS, fanning two in five innings of work. Nick LaFevre, Buzzard and Overholt also pitched.
Fredericktown bounced back with an exciting 7-6 victory over Clear Fork on May 8.
After leading 5-0 through four innings, the Freddies needed a run in the seventh to win.
Lavin and Overholt each cracked two singles to lead Fredericktown. Gibson, Hannan, Mills, Luckmeier and Rinehart had one hit apiece.
Buzzard tossed the first four innings for FHS, with Beeman and Lavin finishing up.
An early Fredericktown lead disappeared, and Centerburg went on to a 9-5 victory on Tuesday.

Kellen Algire started on the hill for FHS, striking out one in 4.1 innings of work. LaFevre finished up, fanning one.
