Scouts come together for community service project

Scouts from Troop 1344-Girls and Troop 344-Boys completed a service project recently which included the clean up of the stone garden at Faith Lutheran Church.

Performing service projects together is one way that Scouts keep their promise “to help other people.” While a Scout should do their best to help others every day, a group service project is a larger way to serve the community.

Again, this year, BSA Scout Troop 1344-Girls, sponsored by the Apple Valley Property Owners Association in Howard, along with several members of BSA Scout Troop 344-Boys, undertook the cleanup of the stone garden at Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. The Scouts raked the accumulation of pine needles and debris throughout the garden, including the Wedding House and amphitheater. They also completed a general cleanup of fallen limbs and branches.

When Scouts provide service, they learn to work together with others for the benefit of their community. Scouting requires hours of service to others in order to advance in rank. Eagle Scout candidates are required to develop and provide leadership for an approved service project.

Scouting America provides the nation’s foremost youth program for character development and values-based leadership training, helping young people become “Prepared for Life.”

Scouting America welcomes all youth into its programs. Its goal is to provide outstanding experiences in the outdoors and beyond, where young people can grow in a safe environment. More than 130 million Americans have participated in Scouting programs since the organization’s founding, and currently nearly one million youth are served by 477,000 adult volunteers in local councils throughout the country.
