Danville has another speed when it comes playoff time.

The Blue Devils, who have advanced to the state playoffs 13 times in the last 15 years, didn’t get in by much this season. But, in the opener of the Div. VII regionals, the Devils knew exactly what to do.

Danville held Steubenville Catholic Central to just 67 yards of offense and whipped the Crusaders, 54-0, on Oct. 31 at Steubenville. The victory advanced the Blue Devils to the second round, where they faced Fisher Catholic on Friday night.

Owen Gronberg led the defensive stand for the Devils (6-5) with seven tackles and a sack. Sylas Mizer added five tackles, while Camden Horn, Cyren Wallace and Jacob Byers each had four tackles. Chris Mosher added a sack, while Aidan Mickley had an interception. The Devils also forced four fumbles, two of which were recovered by Byers, and one each by Elliot Holt and Wesley Payne.

Offensively, the Devils followed the lead of sophomore Cy Wallace. The running back churned out 118 yards on just four carries and scored two touchdowns. Nolan Ridgway added 47 yards rushing, while Payne had 39 and Parker Proper 34. Proper also completed 8 of 11 passes for 70 yards and two scores. Carson Proper caught three of those passes for 59 yards and a TD.
