Bulldogs take first KMAC tournament

East Knox took a big first step in the fight for the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference golf title. The Bulldogs won the opening KMAC tourney on Aug. 6 at Wyandot Golf Course, shooting a 334. Northmor finished second at 347, followed by Centerburg (348), Fredericktown (374) and Loudonville (423).

The Bulldogs were led by senior A.J. Baxter, who fired scores of 39-40 (79) to finish as runner-up medalist. Caleb Armstrong came in with a 43-39 (82), while Beau Keller (42-44–86) and Keagan Harris (45-42–87) were right behind. Jeff Cook came in at 98 (52-46) and Trygg Waugh shot 106 (51-55).

Centerburg senior Nick Meyers was overall medalist, shooting a 34-38 to finish at 72. Sam Lloyd added an 88 (38-50) for the Trojans, followed by Julian Meyers (46-48) and Vinny Morgan (48-46), each at 94.

Fredericktown’s Cooper Lowe finished fourth overall with an 81 (42-39). Thatcher Motter was next at 88 (47-41), followed by Braxton Horlacher at 94 (45-49), Hunter Robertson (110), Jolie Cooper (138) and Joey McGregor (158).

Fredericktown

Cooper Lowe had a hole in one and lead the Fredericktown golf team to a 190-196 victory over Highland on Tuesday at Vernon View Golf Course.

Lowe aced the 12th hole en route to a medalist round of 40. Teammate Thatcher Motter tied him for medalist honors with another 40, while Braxton Horlacher shot a 48, followed by Hunter Robertson (62), Jolie Cooper (64) and Joey McGregor (77).

Mount Vernon

The Mount Vernon golf team finished tied for second in the opening Licking County League tournament on Aug. 5 at Echo Springs.

The Yellow Jackets fired a team score of 319 to tie Licking Valley and Watkins Memorial for second behind overall winner Granville (317).

Griffin Beach fired a 75 to lead the Jackets. Keaton Strouse was next with an 80, followed by Tyce Davidson (81), Tyler Marsell (83), Grayson Workman (84) and Justus Shaw (85).

Mount Vernon then played in the Westerville Invitational on Aug. 7 at Medallion Country Club. The team finished 20th with a score of 342.

Marsell led the team with an 82. Workman was next at 85, followed by Beach (87), Shaw (88) and Davidson (93).

The Jackets followed that up by hosting an invitational Aug. 8 at Chapel Hill Golf Course where they finished ninth of 17 teams.

MV shot 317 and was led by a pair of 77s from Beach and Shaw. Marsell was next at 79, while both Workman and Davidson fired 84s.

The Jackets finished third in the second LCL tournament, held Monday at Chapel Hill. Mount Vernon fired a 312 to finish behind champion Granville (308) and Johnstown (310).

Beach and Davidson both finished in the top 10, firing rounds of four-over-par 76 to tie for eighth place. Workman and Strouse both came in 14th at 80, while Marsell was 16th at 81 and Shaw shot 84 to finish 22nd.
