Boys' basketball teams discover opponents for tournament
Danville, Fredericktown, Centerburg will host first-round games
Knox County boys’ basketball teams, along with the Mount Vernon girls’ team, found out their tournament destination following a draw on Sunday.
In the boys’ Division V tournament, Fredericktown earned the No. 4 seed and will play host to Pleasant in its opening game on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m.
If they Freddies win, they will host another tournament game, this time the district semifinals on Wednesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. They would face the winner of Fairbanks (No. 6) and Mount Gilead (No. 7). Another victory would put them in the district finals on Saturday, March 7, at 7:15 p.m. at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ariel Arena.
East Knox received the 13th seed in Division V, and will travel to No. 5 Harvest Prep on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m.
If they Bulldogs win, they will travel to either Bishop Ready (No. 3) or North Union (No. 9) in the district semifinals on Wednesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. A second victory would put the Bulldogs in the district finals on Saturday, March 7, at 5 p.m. at MVNU.
Centerburg was named the seventh seed in Division VI and will play host to Wellington (No. 9) on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. A win would put the Trojans in the district semifinals on Wednesday, March 4, at 7 p.m., and the district finals would be Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Ohio Expo Center.
Danville earned the No. 2 seed in Division VII and will open at home against Northside Christian, the No. 12 seed, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.
A victory would give the Blue Devils another home game, this time on Friday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. against the winner of the Ridgedale (No. 6) and Liberty Christian (No. 9) game.
The district semifinals would be Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. and the district finals on Saturday, March 7, at Ohio Dominican University.
On the girls’ side, Mount Vernon received the No. 9 seed and will play host to Logan (No. 11) on Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. A win puts the Yellow Jackets in the district semifinals at Teays Valley on Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. The district finals would be Feb. 27, at 8:15 p.m. at the Ohio Expo Center.
Mount Vernon’s boys’ team will find out its fate on Sunday, Feb. 22.
