West Holmes High School wrestler Easton Ross finished fifth in the 16U Greco-Roman 215-pound division at the USA Wrestling Central Regional Championship Tournament May 17 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Ross’ fifth-place finish qualifies the returning state qualifier and incoming junior as a member of Team Ohio and earns him a spot at the Fargo Nationals Championship Tournament, which will be held July 9-18 in Fargo, North Dakota.

Ross went 3-2 in Greco-Roman competition. After dropping into the consolation bracket following a first-round loss, he rallied with an 8-0 technical fall in 3:56 and a 10-5 decision victory to move into the consolation semifinals. Ross dropped that match 6-3 but came back in the fifth-place match with a 13-6 decision win over Colin Fellure of Franklin, Indiana, to lock up a Fargo Nationals berth.

Ross also competed in freestyle, finishing 1-2. His lone win was a 13-9 decision over Brendan Asmar of Birch Run, Michigan.

Ross, incoming senior Lincoln Goans and incoming junior Liam Angle all qualified earlier this offseason for the upcoming USA Wrestling-Ohio Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championship Tournament.

Ross qualified in both disciplines after placing runner-up in 16U freestyle with a 2-1 record and third in Greco-Roman with a 3-2 record and one fall at the May 2 Ohio Central Regional Tournament at Dublin Coffman High School. Ross also qualified April 18 with a Greco-Roman championship, finishing 3-0, and a freestyle runner-up finish, going 2-1, at the Ohio Northeast Regional Tournament in Akron.

Goans qualified for the Junior 190-pound Greco-Roman state championship tournament after placing fifth at both the Dublin Coffman qualifier, where he went 2-2 with one fall, and the Akron qualifier, where he went 2-2.

Angle, competing at Junior 132 pounds, qualified in both disciplines at the Akron qualifier. He placed third in freestyle with a 4-1 record and one fall and sixth in Greco-Roman with an 0-5 record.

The USA Wrestling-Ohio Junior/16U Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championship Tournament will take place May 23-24 at Ohio Northern University in Ada.
