West Holmes softball splits OCC games, falls to Garaway
The Knights topped New Philadelphia before falling to the Quakers and Garaway
Garaway defeated West Holmes 9-2 in a nonleague softball clash May 9.
Emma Miller (home run) and Zalina Proper (two hits) led the Knights.
New Philadelphia downed West Holmes 10-6 in Ohio Cardinal Conference action May 7.
Briar Cline went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead WH. Miller went 3-for-4 with a home run, while Proper had two hits.
Cline also started the game in the circle, allowing three unearned runs on three hits over five innings with three strikeouts and five walks.
West Holmes picked up a 4-2 win over New Philadelphia in OCC play May 6.
The score was tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning when WH’s Zoe Walter singled, scoring two runs.
Cline homered and drove in two runs. The senior also went the distance to earn the win in the circle, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Proper and Miller both had two hits.
Girls track & field
West Holmes finished sixth out of 11 teams at the Fairless Twilight Invitational May 8.
Mallory Marmet won the shot put with a toss of 35-2½ and the discus with a throw of 120-8 to lead WH. Iriel Mena finished second in the 1600 in 5:31.21 and ran a leg on the second-place 4x800 relay, which included Sophie Arnold, Breslyn Brown and Katherine Kaster, who also finished second in the 3200 in 11:45.69.
Boys track & field
West Holmes finished fifth at the 11-team Fairless Twilight Invitational May 8.
Rhett Chaney led the Knights by winning the long jump with a mark of 20-4¼ and leading off the 4x200 relay, which finished first in a season-best 1:32.84 and included Garrett Obrst, Marshall Yoder and Mac Craft. Maddax Graham finished second in the shot put (50-9) and the discus (166-5). Craft finished third in the 200 in 23.50 and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay, which finished third in 45.84 and included Chaney, Obrst and Brayden Parsons.
