The Tuscarawas County Real Estate Investment Association will host a seminar focused on short-term rentals Thursday, Aug. 14 at Kent State University’s Founders Hall in New Philadelphia. The event aims to support both seasoned investors and those new to the short-term rental market by providing education, resources, and community networking opportunities.
Networking will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the main seminar at 7 p.m. The event is presented in collaboration with the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau and will feature Rose Tipka, founder of the vacation rental company Your Family’s Place, as the keynote speaker.
Dee Grossman of the Tuscarawas County CVB played a key role in planning the seminar. Brian Ice, a member of TuscREIA’s advisory board, said short-term rentals have been a recurring topic among the organization’s members for the past four years.
Founded in the early to mid-1990s as the Tuscarawas County Landlord Group, TuscREIA now includes approximately 40 to 60 local real estate investors focused on education and growth.
“This seminar is part of our commitment to helping investors succeed,” Ice said. “When we connected with Rose, we knew we had an opportunity to bring valuable insight to the local community. Dee and the CVB helped make it a reality.”
Real-world experience
Tipka transitioned from a high school science teacher to a full-time entrepreneur when she and her husband founded Your Family’s Place in 2017. Their business was inspired by the challenges they faced in finding suitable accommodations for their family of eight. The company now offers pet-friendly, family-oriented vacation rentals designed to meet the needs of larger groups.
In 2023, Tipka published a bestselling book titled “Hospitable Host,” which elevated her visibility in the short-term rental industry. She has since spoken at hospitality events across the globe, promoting professionalism among small rental operators.
“Family vacations are crucial for memory-making and providing experiences that strengthen family bonds,” Tipka said.
Seminar focus
Tipka’s seminar will focus on three main themes:
—Professional standards: Emphasizing host accountability, guest safety, and service quality in the short-term rental industry
