Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools will host its annual Back-to-School Bash Monday, Aug. 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 140 N. Bodmer Ave.

The event will open at 4:30 p.m. with local pastors praying for students, staff and the new school year. Elementary students can meet their teachers and take supplies to their classrooms, while middle and high school students can pick up schedules in the high school gym. Athletic schedules will also be available. Vendors will be on hand to share information about community services.

“There will be a Kona Ice vendor, the Parent Teacher Group will provide inflatables, balloons, and free food will be offered for the community,” Superintendent Vince Lindsay said.

Lindsay also announced a new app, Parent Square, to keep the community informed about events.

Classes for kindergarten through 12th grade begin Aug. 20, with preschool starting Sept. 2. Katie Miller is the new elementary principal, replacing Sheila Doerschuk, who retired after 10 years with the district. Four new teachers and a new custodian will join the staff, and Maria Smith has been named director of continuous improvement and gifted.

“I am excited for the new school year. We aim to be the best in all we do,” Lindsay said. “We have great students and staff and want to keep positive momentum. We want to continue to celebrate the students and staff.”

Golden Agers, first responders and veterans, both retired and active duty, will receive free passes to all athletic events held in the district.
