Millersburg prepares for Nov. 30 Christmas Parade; council reviews zoning, energy pricing and upcoming projects

Village updates include demolition timelines, sidewalk design work, aggregation renewal, enforcement actions and progress on new water billing system.

Millersburg Village Council met Monday, Nov. 24 and discussed the following:

—The Millersburg Christmas Parade will be Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. Anyone wanting to be in the parade needs to be at the elementary school by 1:30 p.m.

—Planning and zoning will meet Dec. 3 to review a variance application for excess signage at Millersburg Tobacco.

—The Wooster Road/Jones Street intersection is completed and striped, as well as Glen Drive and Port Washington.

—Engineers are in the design phase of the village's downtown sidewalk project.

—Aspen Energy is beginning to look at renewal pricing for the electrical aggregation that expires in June 2026. The village also is going to place its accounts that are not currently on a contracted rate on the aggregation through June 2026, as current rates are much higher than the aggregation rate of $0.0689/kWh. Currently, the Energy Choice Ohio apples-to-apples chart shows a range from $.0939 to $.1550/kWh for 24-36 month fixed rates.

—The county demolition projects were scheduled to start the week of Nov. 24. In town there are five properties to be demolished: 90 S. Mad, 136 S. Mad, 326 N. Mad, 113 N. Crawford and 314 Wooster Road.

—Envision was given the go-ahead, and the village will have the kickoff meeting in early December.

—The Pathmaster order has been placed for the Currux detection system. Once it notifies the village that the equipment is ready, the village will coordinate installation with Signal Services.

—The surplus item auction ended Nov. 24. The auction items the village had for sale came to $1,538. The two high-cost items were the village signs, which brought $960, and the old swings from the park, which got $415.

—The Holmes County Commissioners passed the annexation for the Jordan properties, and it will be on the agenda for the first reading at the next council meeting.

—Council decided to contact the village's solicitor to file cease and desist paperwork for both the owner and property manager of Terrace View. They have had a year to comply with the village's zoning procedures and have refused.

—The village's new cadet Connor Boggs will start Dec. 13. He will work in dispatch until he starts the academy in February. He will be on a three-year contract.

—The January water bill will include both the new system and the old paper system. If everything goes well, the village will completely implement the new system for the second water bill of 2026.

—The village administrator will contact Baker Survey to get a quote for the alley vacation at 419 Wise and 711 Maxwell.

—Council decided the village administrator or his designee, from here on out, will be able to approve parking spaces, facility usage and street closures.
