The Kind Cadets 4-H Club continued its monthly gatherings this spring with meetings held April 13 and May 4. The sessions focused on educational demonstrations, hands-on animal experiences and recreational activities.
At the April 13 meeting, Everett Shirtz led a demonstration about his guinea pig, allowing members to feed the pet while learning about proper care. Owen Russell gave a presentation on birdwatching, sharing photos of various bird species he observed in his backyard. Kenlee Kopp presented on her market chicks, letting members hold the animals and learn about their early care. Kopp also performed a health and safety demonstration on proper handwashing techniques in her role as the club’s health and safety officer. The meeting concluded with an Easter egg hunt led by recreation leader Leighton Lowery.
The May 4 meeting included a variety of demonstrations. Owen Russell presented a cooking demonstration, teaching members how to properly use kitchen utensils. Norah Russell exhibited her homemade first aid kit, explained how to bandage a wound and discussed the importance of stretching to prevent injury. Faith Russell demonstrated how to safely cut vegetables. Willow Knobloch introduced her rabbit Marshmallow and explained proper care for the pet. Audree Rufener shared a cake she had decorated for her project, which was served as a snack.
The meeting closed with a May the Fourth-themed “make your own droid” activity led by Leighton Lowery.
The next Kind Cadets 4-H Club meeting is scheduled for June 29, during which project and group photos will be taken.
