Holiday fun July 24 at Wayne Humane Society's top fundraiser
Santa and Mrs. Claus are making a special visit to the Wayne County Humane Society’s Christmas in July fundraiser on July 24 from 5-9 p.m. at the Wayne County Fairgrounds Event Center. This has been a family event for several years and is WCHS’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
This year McElroy Packaging is the major sponsor of this event, along with other local companies and businesses, either through direct funding, silent auction baskets and/or live auction items. It is not too late to donate to the silent auction or the live auction. The live auction includes sporting events, dinner with friends and family, artisan-crafted furniture and more.
There will be kids activities in a kids area at the event, along with adult games that include a scavenger hunt. The event ticket includes a free drink of choice. There will be music and food trucks outside the event center including Oma Gourd, Chuy’s Tacos, Gimme Grub and more. Soft drinks, water, beer and wine will be available.
The event benefits the work of the WCHS, which provides a shelter and services for many different animals and caretakers that often have no other option. The WCHS’s mission is to provide veterinary care services and uphold the mission to only use euthanasia as a last resort based on the health of the creature.
The WCHS is a nonprofit organization with a fully volunteer board. WCHS is highly dependent on the generosity of volunteers to reduce expenses and donations from the community, which help with day-to-day costs and special projects.
For those interested in volunteering, there are a variety of opportunities, ranging from laundry detail to dog walking, cat sitting and participation in special events. The organization receives no county funding, and donations are tax-deductible.
Tickets for Christmas in July can be purchased on the WCHS website at www.wchs.org/.
