The board of directors of United Way Wayne and Holmes recently voted to approve the filling of a vacant position, choosing Ashley Hershberger as associate director, a position that has been vacant since 2022.
A recent bequest will allow United Way of Wayne and Holmes to explore needed services and opportunities in the community, but not at the expense of other programs and offerings. This will allow the organization to meet community needs in real time.
“Ashley has served on our board of directors for a few years, and the timing was just right,” said Katie Koglman, executive director. “We needed someone eager to serve with experience leading people and with an energy level that matched the rest of the team. We are thrilled to bring Ashley on and can’t wait to see her bloom and the organization to grow because of her hard work and passion for people in this community.”
Hershberger is a Millersburg native with experience in community building and management. She spent 18 years with the City of Wooster, most recently as recreation and community center manager. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, organizing events, cheering on local teams, creating social media content and keeping up with her two boys.
She currently serves on the West Holmes Athletic Booster Club Board of Trustees, the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Wooster and Woosterfest committees, and the Kiwanis Club of Wooster, where she previously served as club president.
Hershberger has been recognized with several honors for her community work including the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce Mike Lezak Award for Volunteer Service, the Jack O'Donnell Award for Community Service and the Wayne County ATHENA Young Professional of the Year. A graduate of West Holmes High School and Ashland University, she will begin her journey with United Way Wayne and Holmes on July 14.
“I’m so excited for this opportunity to use my gifts in a new way,” Hershberger said. “I’ve always said Holmes County raised me and Wayne County embraced me. This is such a special place, and the potential here is endless. I’m inspired every day by the incredible people dedicating their time and energy to make a real difference in our communities. I’m honored to have the chance to help shine a light on these efforts and to explore all the possibilities for doing even more. I can’t wait to get started and be part of this meaningful work.”
