Hero Hustle 5k to be held during Cy Young Festival in Newcomerstown

The eighth annual Hero Hustle 5k Walk and Run will take place Saturday, June 28 at Cy Young Memorial Park in Newcomerstown. Held in conjunction with the Cy Young Festival, the event honors military men and women while raising funds for three nonprofit organizations: Operations Veterans Helping Veterans, #orangeandblackgetfit and the Cy Young Festival Committee. The rain date is Saturday, July 12.
This year’s race will feature a timed costume-themed run with the theme “Americana.” Participants are encouraged to show their spirit by dressing in red, white and blue or in military or baseball-themed costumes.
Prizes will be awarded for best costume in each category including best man, best woman, best group, best boy, best girl and best pet. Medals will be awarded to the top three male, female and youth finishers. The youth category is for participants age 14 and under.
Registration and shirt pickup will take place June 28 from 8:15-8:40 a.m. at Cy Young Memorial Park. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m., and the race will start at 9 a.m. The cost is $35 and includes a race T-shirt and a free day pass to the Cy Young Pool. Veterans and children under 9 can participate for free. Extra shirts will be available for purchase.
Participants also can honor a veteran by having their name printed on the back of this year’s race shirt for an additional $10 donation. Proceeds will directly benefit veterans, community fitness efforts and the Cy Young Festival.
The event will include water stops and a food truck. Volunteers are needed to assist at intersections.
