Orrville is set to host two community events on Saturday, Aug. 23 — the third annual Smith Orr Homestead Festival on the Lawn and the inaugural Brick by Brick Chug Run, hosted by the Orrville American Legion. The events will fundraise for two local causes.
The Brick by Brick Chug Run will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Orrville American Legion, 237 E. Market St. Participants age 18 and older (21 and over with valid ID for alcohol) will take part in a challenge — chug a 12-ounce beer or nonalcoholic beverage, then run a 400-meter loop four times to complete a mile. Multiple heats including nonalcoholic options ensure everyone can take part. The run will conclude with an awards ceremony at the Smith Orr Homestead, just a short walk away.
The Festival on the Lawn will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Smith Orr Homestead, 365 W. Market St. This event will feature local artisans, hayrides, food trucks, live music, ax throwing and a cornhole tournament beginning at 1 p.m. Vendor booths will be available for $30, and the Orrville Historical Society is still accepting vendors and performers to join the festivities.
Proceeds from these events will benefit two local nonprofits. The Sons of the American Legion Post 282 will donate a portion of Chug Run proceeds to the “Be the One” veteran suicide awareness campaign. The remaining funds will support the Orrville Historical Society in its efforts to repair the deteriorating driveway at the historic Smith Orr Homestead.
Local businesses and community members can sponsor the Chug Run to help cover costs for T-shirts and other expenses. Volunteers also are needed to help with setup, coordination and cleanup on the day of the events.
