The Claymont Foundation will hold its annual Alumni Awards Dinner on Saturday, May 12 at Claymont High School at 6 p.m.

Alumni Award winners for 2018 are Mel Peters, Distinguished Alumnus Award; Barbara Huff Bollon, Citizen of the Year Award; Jim Riley, Alumnus of the Year Award; and Jason Johnson, Alumnus Achievement Award. Chett Peters will receive the Teacher of the Year Award.

Mel Peters, Uhrichsville Class of 1960, retired as a teacher and coach from Claymont City Schools in 1997. He taught physical education and served as the head coach for football, track and wrestling. He is a graduate of Ohio Northern University.

Riley, a 1993 Claymont graduate, is the director of marketing for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He oversees all aspects of the organization’s marketing efforts including advertising, branding, ticket promotions, signage, community events and creative services. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and sports management.

Bollon, Claymont Class of 1978, is a retired teacher, having taught at New Philadelphia for 15 years and Claymont for 15 years. In her final years of teaching, she taught in the REACH Program for gifted students. She received her bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace University and her master’s in gifted education from Ashland University.

Johnson, a 1996 Claymont graduate, received his degrees in computer engineering and mechanical engineering from Kent State University. He is currently the president and CEO of Gemini Industrial Machine Group.

Chett Peters, Claymont 1991 graduate, is an industrial technology teacher at Claymont High School and has taught there since 1996. His classes include machine technology I-IV, wood technology I-IV, basic sheet metal and mechanical drawing. Prior to coming to Claymont, he spent one year teaching woodworking classes at Tuslaw High School.

Chett Peters received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University, his master’s in teaching and learning from Nova Southeastern University, and his master’s in school administration from Wheeling Jesuit University. He is a member of New Point Community Church. He has served as a Mill Township trustee for 12 years and is a realtor with Kiko Company. He is a former recipient of the American Red Cross Educator of the Year award.

Scholarships totaling $99,250 will be awarded to Claymont High School seniors and Claymont alumni college students. Teacher Grant award winners also will be recognized.

Tickets for the event are $18 and are available at First National Bank in Dennison, Mako’s Market and Pharmacy, and all of the Claymont schools.
