Bill brings more good than bad to Ohio
Letter to the Editor,
I'd like to clarify a few points following a recent article about my town hall at the Dover Public Library, particularly regarding Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 96.
Senate Bill 1 has been mischaracterized. Its goal is not to suppress ideas but to ensure public universities remain neutral on controversial issues, protecting students' freedom to explore diverse viewpoints. It promotes intellectual diversity, not censorship.
As for House Bill 96, the state budget spans over 5,000 pages and funds every state department.
Legislators vote yes or no on the entire bill. I voted yes because I believe it brought more good than bad to Ohio.
Beyond schools and libraries, the budget invests in education, health and human services, infrastructure, public safety, and economic development. It supports families, children, veterans and communities statewide. Notably, no public school or library received less funding than the previous year.
Lastly, any mention of being a “new” legislator was an honest response to nuanced questions. I'm committed to ongoing learning and representing our district with transparency and integrity.
Rep. Jodi Salvo
