Two nationally recognized speakers will headline a series of free events at Malone University in April focused on the role of marriage and family in building healthy communities.
Dr. Juli Slattery and Dr. Brad Wilcox are scheduled to speak April 16-17 at the university’s Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts. The events are open to the public, though preregistration is required.
Wilcox, a distinguished professor of sociology at the University of Virginia, will present research on how marriage and family structures impact society. His work emphasizes the role of strong families in promoting stability and improving quality of life.
The series will begin April 16 at 10 a.m. with Wilcox speaking during Malone’s weekly community worship service. He will also present “The Family Factor: How Strong Families Strengthen Communities” at noon.
That evening, Slattery, a clinical psychologist and author, will interview Wilcox during a live recording of her podcast, “Java With Juli,” at 7 p.m. Audience members may have an opportunity to ask questions during the event.
A final session April 17 at 7:30 a.m. will bring together pastors and church leaders for a strategy discussion on strengthening marriage and family initiatives in northeast Ohio. The session will include perspectives from Communio, a national marriage-focused organization, and the Center for Christian Virtue.
Organizers said the series will highlight research showing that marriage is a key institution in fostering strong communities.
Slattery is the founder of the ministry Authentic Intimacy and hosts a national podcast addressing marriage and relationships through a Christian perspective. Wilcox is the author of “Get Married,” which explores how marriage contributes to prosperity and well-being.
The events are sponsored by The Christ Foundation, The Lookout and other partners.
All events will take place at the Johnson Center, 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW in Canton. Free parking is available on site. Registration information is available online.
