Lake Township zoning board approves variances for home business, ball fields

Decisions include dog boarding operation, athletic facilities and small-parcel agriculture use

At a public hearing on March 26, the Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals approved a request by applicant and property owner Valerie Maurer for a use variance to operate a dog boarding business inside the existing home at her property at 1955 Andrews St. NE, located in a medium-density residential (R-2) zone.

The board approved a request by applicant GBC Design Inc. and property owner Lake Center Christian School for a use variance for recreation Type B (softball field and soccer field) on the LCCS campus at 12893 Kaufman Ave. NW, located in a low-density residential (R-1) zone.

The board approved a request by applicant and property owner Allegra Catalano for a conditional use permit for agriculture on a parcel under one acre at her property at 1511 Andrews Ave. NE, located in a low-density residential (R-1) zone.

The next meeting of the Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals will be held Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. North. All meetings are open to the public.

Consisting of five members and one alternate, all appointed by the Lake Township trustees, the board serves to hear and decide appeals, authorize variance requests and issue or revoke conditional zoning certificates. Those who wish to speak at BZA hearings are asked to take an oath or affirmation and then state their name and address for the record. Decisions of the board are final but may be appealed to the Stark County Court of Common Pleas.
