Lake Township sets dates for spring clean-up

Trustees approve purchases, personnel moves during April 13 meeting

Lake Township trustees set June dates for the annual spring clean-up, approved various purchases and personnel actions, and conducted other business at their April 13 meeting. Board President John Arnold was absent.

At their meeting on April 13, Lake Township trustees scheduled the annual spring clean-up for Wednesday, June 3, through Friday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cleanup will be held behind the Road Department building at 1499 Midway St. Directional signs will be posted. The service is for Lake Township residents only. Residents will be expected to unload their own vehicles. Identification will be checked.

In other business, the board approved a lease agreement with the North Canton Soccer Club for the township property on Midway St. The agreement had been reviewed and approved by the township’s legal counsel.

Trustees accepted the resignation of Road Department auxiliary employee James Miller, effective April 1, and wished him well. They agreed to purchase a dump body for the Road Department from Fallsway Equipment for $10,500. They agreed to pay Dutcher Door $5,319 for the purchase and installation of a replacement gate opener at the Road Department facility. They committed to purchase 3,000 tons of rock salt for the 2026-2027 season. They accepted a quote of $3,258.55 from VASU Communications Inc. for the purchase and installation of a MARCS radio mobile unit for the Road Department. They agreed to pay $20,500 to S&K Asphalt and Concrete for the repair of three areas of roadway.

The board approved a request to advance Uniontown Police Officer Michael Arena to the 2026 “after three years” step of the collective bargaining agreement pay scale for $34.20 per hour, effective May 3. They agreed to purchase Red Dot sights from Leupold for $6,138 for the Police Department, using a grant of $5,092 for part of the cost. They agreed to pay $2,463.20 for qualification/practice ammunition for the Police Department. They approved an expenditure of $1,000 to tint the front driver and passenger-side windows of 10 police cruisers.

Trustees authorized payment of the final invoice of $292.50 from Bio-Scene Recovery Inc. for the anticipated cleanup of the nuisance at 3750 Carl St., including the dumpster set and pickup charges.

The Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a hearing on Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the township hall.

The board scheduled the annual Records Commission meeting for May 26 at 4:55 p.m., with the regular business meeting to follow.

Among the items of correspondence was an inquiry about renting the community center at the Greentown Community Park. Trustees said that center is privately owned by the park.

The board approved total expenditures of $1,353,781.09. They said this total included three weeks of bills and several insurance payments.

Board President John Arnold was absent.

This meeting was streamed on Facebook Live, although it was open to in-person public access. The video may be seen on the township Facebook page. Although there is no “Public Speaks” through the Facebook Live streaming, anyone watching who has questions may submit them by email to the township office.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Lake Township trustees will be held Monday, April 27, at 5 p.m. at the Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. North. All meetings are open to the public by way of live-streaming.
