Lake Township trustees approve paving change order, review projects at rescheduled meeting
At their rescheduled meeting Aug. 21, Lake Township trustees approved a change order of $18,801 to Northstar Asphalt Inc. to cover additional milling, resurfacing and paint striping in the Mt. Pleasant Street portion of the 2025 paving project.
The board agreed to pay $5,000 to Innovative Hydraulic Machinery for repairs to a Road Department dump truck. Trustees also authorized the extension of wireless services to the Administrative and Road Departments from AT&T FirstNet, which will result in a savings of $67 a month.
The board hired a part-time fiscal assistant for payroll work. Trustees tabled a proposed stormwater remediation change order from C. Tucker Cope for the Road Department equipment storage building project until they can discuss less expensive options.
Trustees called attention to a notice from the Stark County Health Department that mosquitoes collected July 30 in the area of Sweitzer Street and Alderglen Street NW tested positive for West Nile virus. The health department planned to spray again during the week of Aug. 25.
A resident addressed the board to report that he had attended an Aug. 14 event held by the Stark County engineer to provide information about proposed improvements to the intersection of State Street and Cleveland Avenue in Greentown.
The Board of Zoning Appeals was scheduled to hold a hearing Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. at the township hall.
Trustees authorized expenditures totaling $117,417.63. After the business meeting, the trustees and the fiscal officer recessed to executive session for a personnel matter. No action was taken.
The meeting was streamed on Facebook Live and open to in-person public access. The video can be viewed on the township Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LakeTownshipStarkCountyOhio/). While there is no “Public Speaks” during Facebook Live streaming, viewers may submit questions by email to the township office at info@laketwpstarkco.com.
The next regular meeting of the Lake Township trustees will be held Monday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. at the Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. N. All meetings are open to the public and streamed live.
