Mayor Bo Bailie opened the Jan. 29 Jewett Village Council meeting by presenting the Taggart family with Good of the Community awards for volunteer work, including the Valentine’s Day Project.

“The reason why you’re here is council, me and the residents here in town … know everything you know, all the hard work and the dedication you put into helping others, especially with the Valentine’s Day Project,” Bailie said. “Everything you guys do, it didn’t go unnoticed.”

Bailie cited work that includes making baskets and packages for children that are delivered to area hospitals. The plaques presented recognized the family’s work in 2025.

“The Valentine Project sends love, hope, and joy to children whose lives are affected by pediatric cancer or chronic illness and Kindness Cards throughout the year,” according to the group’s Facebook page.

A Jan. 20 post said Sara Taggart opened her home to 53 “Valenteers” to help package gifts.
