Huskies go 5-1 during busy week on diamond

The Harrison Central softball team turned in a strong performance during a demanding stretch, winning five of six games over five consecutive days.

The Lady Huskies opened the week April 7 with a 12-1 win over Buckeye Local. A seven-run second inning powered the victory. Harrison Central also scored twice in the first and added three more runs in the fourth. Denali Stull and Kam Crothers each had multiple hits and RBIs, with Stull adding a home run. Lillian Thomas hit a double. Mikayla Pelegreen earned the win, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

The following day, Harrison Central traveled to Rayland and defeated Buckeye Local 9-0, pounding out 14 hits. Pelegreen, Bailey Smith, Stull and Thomas each had multiple hits. Stull, Jaylin Ward, Kara Blackburn and Pelegreen hit doubles, while Stull and Smith added triples. Maddie Johnson picked up the win, allowing two hits while striking out eight.

The Huskies suffered their lone loss of the week April 9, falling 4-1 at Beaver Local. Pelegreen led off the game with a home run, but Beaver Local scored twice in the first and twice in the second. Harrison Central was limited to four hits and committed two errors.

Harrison Central bounced back April 10 with a 10-0 win over East Liverpool. The Huskies scored in four innings and took advantage of four Potter errors. Pelegreen had a double and a triple, while Ward added a triple. Johnson pitched a no-hitter and struck out eight.

The Huskies continued their strong play April 11 with a 10-0 win at Ridgewood. Harrison Central collected 12 hits, including doubles by Kara Blackburn and multiple hits from Blackburn, Thomas, Crothers and Emma Jarvis. Bailey Smith drove in three runs, while Crothers and Thomas each had two RBIs. Pelegreen earned the win, allowing four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Later that day, Harrison Central held off Brooke for a 6-5 victory. The Huskies built a 5-0 lead before Brooke rallied with four late runs. The Bruins had the tying run on second base in the final inning but were unable to score. Johnson earned the win, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Harrison Central finished the week 5-1 despite the grueling schedule.
