Beech Point School students posed for a photograph in Athens Township around 1903.

The school was located on Route 9 about 2 miles east of New Athens at the S-curve on the hill.

George Armstrong Custer reportedly taught there before attending West Point. The final teacher served at the school in 1938.

The photo is from the collection of the Harrison County Historical Society. Information is from a Harrison News-Herald article published July 8, 1976, and the book “Lest We Forget: Harrison County Early Schools.”
