Nine Black Bears advance to district meet in Athens after strong performances in Steubenville.

The River View High School swim team competed in the Ohio
High School Athletic Association South/East District Sectional Tournament at Steubenville High School Feb. 14.
The Black Bears advanced nine swimmers to the state-qualifying district meets in Athens. The girls team placed fifth
overall out of 18 teams, and the boys team placed eighth out of 19 teams.

Riley Gottardi won the 100 butterfly and automatically advanced to districts in the 100 butterfly. Gottardi
also placed second in the 100 backstroke, picking up a silver medal. Dustin
Gregory placed third in the boys 100 butterfly, taking home a bronze medal.
The girls also earned points in the 200 medley relay, placing fourth. The relay team consisted of Britany Hammond, Lily Grewell, Riley
Gottardi and Chloee Adams. The 200 freestyle relay of Chloee Adams, Jillian
Johnson, Britany Hammond and Riley Gottardi also placed fourth, earning points
as well. Britany Hammond earned points in the 100 freestyle, placing fifth, and
in the 100 backstroke, placing sixth. Chloee Adams earned points in the 50 freestyle by placing sixth. Chloee Adams also placed 10th in the 100 breaststroke.
Lily Grewell placed eighth in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle. Jillian Johnson placed seventh in the 50 freestyle and ninth in the
100 freestyle.
The boys earned points with the 400 freestyle relay of JT
Allison, Thomas Vu, Dustin Gregory and Kyle Roach. JT Allison earned points, placing
fifth in both the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. Kyle Roach placed seventh in
the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle. Dustin Gregory placed 10th in
the 100 breaststroke. Thomas Vu placed 14th in the 50 freestyle and 21st
in the 100 freestyle. Wyatt Ferenbaugh had personal best times in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
The River View Black Bears will travel to Athens Friday, Feb. 20 to compete in the state-qualifying district meet.
