Three Eagle Scouts were honored at the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Luncheon for their projects that gave back to the community. The luncheon was held April 30 in the community room and was catered by Schumaker Farms.

The first community improvement award was given to Kyle Roach, who created spots for community members to drop of worn American flags for proper disposal.

“He fulfilled a simple yet meaningful need in our community,” said Steve Oster, chamber board vice president. “He thought of every detail, and this will have an impact for years to come.”

American flag disposal boxes are located at Auer Ace Hardware, Buehler’s, Coshocton City Hall and the West Lafayette Mayor’s Office.

The second community improvement award went to Slade Miller and Wesson McPherson for their Eagle Scout project in West Lafayette. Thanks to them, the Village of West Lafayette now has two new signs to welcome visitors. One sign was placed on County Road 16, and the other is on state Route 93.

“With their perseverance and leadership, they were able to make a lasting improvement in West Lafayette for years to come,” Oster said. “They showed that leadership is not measured by age, but action.”

McPherson said, “I want to thank all the people who helped make this happen.”

Miller said, “This project was our way of giving back to our community, who has helped us a lot.”

After the awards Amy Crown, executive director of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce, said her office has had a great year so far.

“We’ve added 26 new members since January, and our annual auction had a record number of bidders,” she said.

Crown also reminded lunch attendees they are all marketers for Coshocton County.

“If we see something negative out there, we need to stick up for our county and show people why it’s a great place to visit, work and live,” she said.

Coshocton City Mayor Mark Mills said there are many exciting projects being worked on right now, and like Crown, Mills encouraged people to do their part to help the community.

“If we all band together, we can make something to be proud of,” Mills said.

County Commissioner Bob Bigrigg said projects are coming along at Skip’s Landing and thanked all those who work together to make ideas like it come together.

“Winning with teamwork makes the difference,” Bigrigg said.

Mindy Brems, executive director of the Coshocton Visitors Bureau, said her office has already greeted people from 24 of the 50 states and five foreign countries. She also reminded everyone that many community events are coming up this summer. Information on them can be found online at www.visitcoshocton.com.
