A popular fundraiser for the Courthouse Illumination Project is returning to Main Street on Saturday, Aug. 23. The Power-House Cruise on Main will be held at Court Square and will have fun for everyone in the family.
Registration for the car show will begin at 10 a.m., with the car show and activities for kids beginning at 11 a.m. The burnout part of the day will begin at 6 p.m., and the courthouse light show and cruise-in on Main Street will be from 8-10 p.m. The day also will feature vendors, food trucks, face painting, bounce houses and caricatures. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Courthouse Illumination Project.
Mary Beck, administrator for the Coshocton County Commissioners, said there will be five bounce houses, balloon art and lots of other activities for kids to enjoy.
“We will also have multiple food trucks and food vendors. At approximately 4:30 p.m., we will be giving out the awards for the car show, and at 5 p.m. we will have music on the ArtPark/Main Street stage,” Beck said.
Beck also said at 5:45 p.m. a Power House Babe Competition will be held, which is kids doing their best burnout imitations. After that, the national anthem will be played and the burnouts will begin. Anyone planning to participate in the burnouts must follow these rules: The driver must be 18 years old or older and have a valid driver’s license, the vehicle must have a driver’s seat belt or harness, the vehicle must be in good condition (inside and out), and all tires must have sufficient tread. All vehicles must pass an inspection by a tech inspector prior to burnout.
“Once the burnouts are complete, we will clear the barriers, and the car show cars can cruise Main while the courthouse illumination show will be going on,” Beck said.
In addition to the food vendors, there will be around five craft vendors set up. During the kids activities, the Coshocton County Sheriff and Prosecutors Office will do kids IDs. The K-9 units will be there as well. Other activities include the National Guard Fitness Challenge, the United Way with the Dolly Parton Library, the Coshocton Public Library with a make and take craft, and Genesis Health Care with a hydration station and giving out free water.
“We will be playing music over the new speaker system for everyone to enjoy,” Beck said.
The Walhonding Rube Band will perform at 4 p.m. on the Veterans Memorial Plaza.
“With the money we earn from the Power House Cruise on Main, we plan to enhance the lighting out on the gazebo, as well as the lawn, this year," Beck said. "We would still like to add lighting around the Veterans Memorial Plaza and also Third and Chestnut streets. There is still quite a ways to go, but we feel that this project is one everyone in our community loves and will want to contribute to keep it going year after year.”
Beck also said the ice skating rink should be installed in mid-November with tentative plans to have skating available through January.
