The Coshocton Lady Redskins delivered an outstanding performance to capture their first two victories of the season, dominating East Knox in a nonleague doubleheader sweep. Coshocton shut out the Bulldogs 13-0 in the opener, followed by an 11-3 victory in game two.

The Lady Redskins controlled game one early, exploding in the third inning with six runs on four hits. In the fifth inning, the offense continued its attack with five hits and seven runs. Jaelyn Allen, Mallorie Stamper and Saige Taylor each had two hits. Stamper contributed two doubles in the game while Savannah Gambill hit a long triple in the attack.

Gambill dominated on the mound in a complete game effort, allowing only two hits, striking out eight and walking zero.

In game two East Knox took the early lead before Coshocton’s momentum took over, scoring three runs in the third and six runs in the fourth. Gambill and Stamper led the offensive attack with a double each, and both scored two runs. Jazlene Brown scored three runs on one hit and two walks.

Pitching and defense remained strong down the stretch. Freshman Alianna Tittle made her varsity pitching debut, striking out one and walking three, giving up two earned runs. Gambill completed the game with six strikeouts and no earned runs while the defense efficiently caught East Knox runners on the base paths to neutralize any late-game threats.

“I feel like we played our game regardless of our best innings or our quiet innings,” head coach Peighton Lahna said. “We never got in our heads and continued answering if/when they put up runs.”

Lahna was especially pleased with the complete team effort.

“Watching my upperclassmen pave the way for the underclassmen, especially at the plate, and then watching my underclassmen step up and play hard offensively and defensively,” Lahna said. “We played our game and never stopped.”

Redskins roll to second straight shutout in win over Newcomerstown

Coshocton continued its strong start to the season, recording its second consecutive shutout with an 8-0 victory over Newcomerstown. The Redskins improved to 2-0 on the year behind dominant pitching and efficient offense.

Dylan Wood led the way on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout. Wood allowed just three hits while striking out eight batters in a performance that kept Newcomerstown off balance throughout the contest.

Coshocton made the most of limited opportunities at the plate, scoring eight runs on five hits. Champ Haley delivered a key single and drove in two runs to help fuel the offense. Parker Loomis, Cooper George, Koltin Tidwell and Wood each added singles for the Redskins.

Coshocton will be off until Thursday when the Redskins play three games in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Coshocton will play Westchester Country Day Thursday, followed by games with Robert C. Byrd and Chittenango Friday and Saturday.
