Coshocton superintendent placed on paid administrative leave

School board names Matt Nicholas interim superintendent during review process

The Coshocton City School District Board of Education held a special public meeting Jan. 21 for the purpose of conducting an executive session to discuss employment and discipline of personnel and for the purpose of making certain designations regarding employees.

One of the actions taken by the board at the special public meeting was to designate Matt Nicholas to serve as interim superintendent of the district while Superintendent Mark Kowalski is on paid administrative leave.

"Over the course of the last few months, a few different things have been brought to our attention that we felt warrant placing him on leave until we have the opportunity to look further into matters," said Susan Mann, board president of Coshocton City School District Board of Education."

Mann said the issues brought up were not criminal. The board is hopeful to have all matters pertaining to these designations resolved by the end of this month and will be prepared to issue further public statements regarding these matters at that time.

Nicholas has been employed with the district for three years and has served as a licensed administrator in the board's central office since July 2023. He holds his superintendent's license, which was issued by the state board of education in 2020.

Any questions can be directed to Mann.
