Coshocton Historical Club hosts final meeting of season
Glenn Kinkade to present on Col. Henry Bouquet's 1764 rescue at Prairie Chapel Methodist Church May 11
The final meeting of the Coshocton Historical Club's program year will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 11 at Prairie Chapel Methodist Church's fellowship hall, 45494 County Road 23, one block north of the intersection of U.S. 36 and Coshocton County Road 23. Guests should enter the doors at the west end of the building.
Club member Glenn Kinkade will present a program titled "An American Frontier Story." He will talk about Col. Henry Bouquet and his troops rescuing 300 white captives who were taken from their homes in Virginia and Pennsylvania and released near the present-day Lake Park complex in Coshocton in 1764.
Refreshments will be provided by committee members Sharon Hunter, Grace Millspaugh, and Glenn and Sally Kinkade. A short devotion will be provided by Millspaugh. Roll call will be answered by completing this sentence: "My ancestors came from ... "
Club President Sharon Hunter will provide a sign-up sheet for the upcoming 2026-27 club year. This will enable members to indicate responsibility for a program, provide refreshments and offer a devotion on the second Monday of October, November and December 2026, then the second Monday of March, April and May 2027.
If unable to attend the May 11 historical club meeting, Glenn will present the same program at the meeting of the Coshocton County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 in the Coshocton County District Library's large meeting room. The library closes at 7 p.m., but the large meeting room can be reached by walking down the 12 cement steps from the front of the building to the basement, entering through the bookstore door.
