Wooster Emblem Club prepares for busy fall schedule

The Wooster Emblem Club met recently at the Wooster Elks Lodge. President Paulette Douglas presided. The meeting was opened according to ritual.

Committee reports included Americanism, with Val Fulton reporting on Sept. 11. She gave a personal reflection and facts. The Americanism committee has activities planned for Sept. 11 and Labor Day. A flag was given to the Wayne County Historical Society in honor of Wayne County veterans for V-J Day.

The ways and means committee has planned a Swiss steak dinner for Sept. 17. The cost is $12 and includes dessert.

Keri Merikel reported for the drug awareness committee regarding personal and medical use of marijuana. She discussed the laws and differences.

Pat Gerber announced the school supplies collected will be delivered to Cornerstone Elementary once school begins. She also asked members to collect greeting cards to be used for bookmarks.

The National Convention for Emblem Clubs is taking place in Independence, beginning Aug. 25. Members were advised about the dress code and expectations of delegates.

The Ohio State Association of Emblem Clubs will hold a state meeting in October. Registration and reservations are due Sept. 15.

The club's 64th anniversary celebration of its institution is scheduled for Sept. 23 at noon. A potluck luncheon will be served. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Wooster Elks Lodge.
