The Wayne County Health Department, in collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, will host its next monthly pop-up food pantry Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the WCHD's offices at 244 W. South St. in Wooster. This pantry will be market-style like last month. Assistance will be available for those with mobility issues. It's anticipated the pop-up pantry will be a drive-thru format in November.
“Last month we served over 100 families," said Dr. Nicholas Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. "We really appreciate our volunteers, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and our community partners, who really help us make this happen to help so many Wayne County families.”
Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($30,120 per year for individuals and adding $10,760 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $62,400 or less would be eligible.
The health department asks that anyone attending the food pantry not park in the United Way or Wayne Center for the Arts parking lots. They need those parking spots for their clients, employees and visitors. Attendees can park in the lot between the health department and the United Way.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the pop-up pantry can call the Wayne County Health Department at 330-264-9590 ext. 207.
