Wayne County Health Department hosting Sept. 15 pop-up food pantry
Market-style pantry at WCHD offices on South Street will provide food and resources with help from Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and local partners.
The Wayne County Health Department, in collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, will host its next monthly pop-up food pantry Monday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the WCHD's offices at 244 W. South St. in Wooster. This pantry will be market-style like last month. Assistance will be available for those with mobility issues. Several agencies will be on hand to give out information.
“Last month we served over 125 families," said Dr. Nicholas Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. "We also had various community partners join us to give residents very valuable information about their programs and services, along with the food provided by the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. We will continue that until the weather turns cold. I anticipate by November we will resume the drive-thru format.”
Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($30,120 per year for individuals and adding $10,760 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $62,400 or less would be eligible.
The health department asks that anyone attending the food pantry not park in the United Way or Wayne Center for the Arts parking lots. They need those parking spots for their clients, employees and visitors. Attendees can park in the lot between the health department and the United Way.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the pop-up pantry can call the Wayne County Health Department at 330-264-9590 ext. 207.
