The Wayne County Convention and Visitors Bureau has agreed to serve as a central hub to collect, coordinate and promote America 250 celebrations across Wayne County and throughout Ohio.
America 250 is a nationwide, yearlong commemoration in 2026 marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The observance features monthly rotating themes that highlight different chapters of the nation’s story, inviting communities to host cultural, historical and educational events that reflect both local heritage and the broader American experience.
In Ohio the celebration will span all 88 counties, showcasing the state’s role in American history — from innovation and industry to arts, music and aviation — through a range of events and experiences offered throughout the year.
As the designated clearinghouse, the WCCVB will compile America 250-themed events and make them available through a centralized county calendar, helping residents and visitors easily discover what’s happening while giving organizers a broader platform to promote their programs.
The bureau is encouraging cities, villages, businesses and community organizations across Wayne County to submit their America 250 event lineups for inclusion on the county calendar.
“This is a chance for every community and organization to be part of a once-in-a-generation celebration,” said Shannon Carter, executive director of the Wayne County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We want to make it as easy as possible for local businesses, cities, villages and organizations to share their schedules and get their events in front of a wider audience.”
Carter said the centralized approach will not only improve visibility for individual events, but also help position Wayne County and Ohio as a coordinated destination for America 250 activities, making it easier for families, schools and visitors to plan trips around the monthly themes.
