The Ohio Supreme Court has appointed Wayne County Clerk of Courts Scott Wiggam to serve on the Commission on Technology and the Courts, a statewide body charged with guiding the future of technology in Ohio’s judicial system. Wiggam was nominated for the post by the Ohio Clerks of Courts Association. His three-year term will begin Jan. 1 and run through Dec. 31, 2028.

The Commission on Technology and the Courts was established by the Supreme Court of Ohio to advise the justices on major technology initiatives that impact courts statewide. According to the rule creating the commission, its work includes recommending uniform standards for information-technology systems, expanding education and training for judges and court personnel, improving the exchange of data between courts and justice-system partners, and supporting projects such as the Ohio Courts Network — a statewide database that helps ensure safer and more efficient administration of justice.

Made up of 25 members from across the legal and law-enforcement community, the commission plays a vital role in helping Ohio courts navigate emerging technology, cybersecurity concerns and modernization efforts that affect every level of the judicial branch.

Wiggam said he is honored by the appointment and looks forward to contributing to statewide improvements.

“It is a privilege to serve Ohio in this capacity,” Wiggam said. “Technology is now central to how courts deliver justice. My goal is to help ensure that every court — from the largest county to the smallest municipal bench — has the tools, security and support needed to operate efficiently and serve the public well.”

Wiggam is currently in his first term as Wayne County clerk of courts and has emphasized service, modernization and strong working relationships with the courts. His appointment places Wayne County among a select group of local jurisdictions directly represented in statewide judicial-technology planning.

Wiggam recently met with Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy, who leads the court and oversees appointments to the commission.

The Commission on Technology and the Courts will convene throughout Wiggam’s term to shape the policies and systems that support Ohio’s judiciary including electronic filing, data security, digital access for the public and other innovations that affect court users across the state.
