The Wayne County Care Center has expanded its services with the opening of a new assisted living floor, offering residents a comfortable, supportive environment with the convenience of on-site medical care and amenities.
Located above the center’s long-term care and skilled nursing unit, the assisted living area features private apartments for individuals who wish to maintain their independence but benefit from daily support.
“We give assistance to anybody who can’t quite live on their own, but they’re able to have their own apartment and be checked on frequently,” said Cathy Parker, director of nursing. “They’re pretty independent people, but we’re here to help them with the things they need.”
The new assisted living floor has four units, with two more under renovation and expected to open next month. Each apartment includes access to meals, housekeeping, laundry and medical services — all within the same facility.
Residents enjoy the security of on-site medical staff and convenient access to the center’s full-service pharmacy, therapy department and medical director, who visits three times a week.
“If a resident comes down with something like the flu, our medical director can see them right here,” Parker said. “They don’t have to leave the building for care.”
Meals are prepared daily by the facility’s chef, and residents dine alongside those in long-term care, encouraging friendships and an easy transition if higher levels of care are needed later. Activities, outings and events are shared between both groups to foster community connection.
Unlike other assisted living facilities, the Wayne County Care Center’s base rate includes meals, laundry, access to 24-hour nursing care, utilities, Wi-Fi and weekly housekeeping at no extra cost. Transportation to outside appointments and medication expenses are billed separately.
“We focus on the individual needs of each resident,” Parker said. “We offer a lot of one-on-one attention and provide as much independence as possible while keeping every comfort close at hand.”
