Wayne County boys swimmers return seasoned leaders, eye postseason progress

Orrville, Smithville, Waynedale and Dalton bring back district qualifiers and welcome new talent as they prepare for the 2025-26 season.

Coached by Tammy Lyons, the Orrville Area Conglomerate features swimmers from Orrville, Dalton, Smithville, Waynedale and Tuslaw. Although the schools practice together, their athletes don’t compete on the same team in meets. Below is a brief look at area schools heading into the 2025-26 high school boys swimming and diving season, which will begin Nov. 24.

Orrville

Orrville returns two letter-winners in senior Luke Hofstetter, a 2025 district qualifier, and junior Logan Boggs.

“Both Luke and Logan are very diverse and talented swimmers,” Lyons said. “They can both swim all the strokes and all of the events. The goal will be to determine which two individual events each boy will swim to enable them to go as deep as possible in the (postseason) tournament.”

Smithville

Smithville returns three letter-winners in seniors Wyatt Skarl (2025 district qualifier) and Taygen Nelson and junior Reis Durstine (two-time district qualifier). Freshmen Jonas Skarl and Devin Tyler also will be in the mix.

“We lost two very strong swimmers to graduation, but Jonas and Devin have competitive swim experience and should help fill the holes left behind,” Lyons said. “We will have a strong relay again this season and individuals who will score points for Smithville.”

Waynedale

Waynedale returns senior Wyatt Moore, a three-year letter-winner, and sophomore Weston Moore.

“With the same swimmers returning this season, I look for (them) to be improving on personal-best times,” Lyons said.

Dalton

Dalton returns two letter-winners in senior Dallas Vonbonin and junior Zeke Martinez.

“Zeke and Dallas have both improved," Lyons said.
