Wayne Center for the Arts awarded $100K challenge grant for new Arts Park, FabLab

The Beaverson Fund will match community donations dollar for dollar as WCA works to create an inclusive Arts Park and innovative maker space.

Wayne Center for the Arts announced a $100,000 challenge grant from the Audrey L. Beaverson Field of Interest Fund, administered by the Wayne County Community Foundation, to support the development of the new Arts Park and FabLab. This challenge will match community contributions dollar for dollar.

The Beaverson Fund was established to continue the legacy of Audrey L. Beaverson, a lifelong Wooster resident and philanthropist who dedicated her life to strengthening the Wayne County community.

A pioneering business leader, Beaverson and her husband Kenneth founded several successful local companies including Wooster Motor Ways Inc. Following her husband’s passing, Beaverson became one of the county’s earliest women executives. In later years she turned her focus to philanthropy, supporting emergency services, health care and numerous nonprofit organizations throughout Wayne County.

“This challenge grant is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with generosity and vision,” said Sara Brink, executive director of Wayne Center for the Arts. “When we invest in shared spaces like the Arts Park, we are investing in connection, creativity and well-being for everyone. We are honored to be part of a legacy of giving that continues to shape and strengthen Wayne County.”

The $100,000 challenge grant will help WCA reach its fundraising goal for the Arts Park, a revitalized green space that will feature an inclusive playground, outdoor performance area, public art and gathering spaces. The project also includes the FabLab, a new maker space where art and technology meet, offering hands-on learning in woodworking, metal, glass and design.

“This project is the perfect example of what is possible when you combine the generosity of people like the late Audrey Beaverson and the vision of creative people like the team at Wayne Center for the Arts," said Melanie Reusser Garcia, executive director of Wayne County Community Foundation. "The community foundation is thrilled to help transform an underutilized park into a vibrant, colorful gem of a space that can be enjoyed by all ages and all abilities.”

WCA invites the community to meet this challenge throughout November. Every dollar donated toward the Arts Park will be matched by the Beaverson Fund, doubling the impact of each gift. Updates on fundraising progress and ways to give will be shared on WCA’s website and social media channels.

“Thanks to the Beaverson Fund’s generosity, this challenge gives everyone — from families to local businesses — a chance to be part of building something meaningful for generations to come,” Brink said. “Together, we can build a park that celebrates what makes our community truly special: creativity, compassion and connection.”
